This week’s vintage production music tracks include the song “Warlock” by Reg Tilsley, a song that has been sampled numerous times by hip hop producers, including usages in Drake’s “We Made It"

and KRS-One's "AZTECHNICAL"

As is often the case on our program, we also feature music by German composer Ernst August Quelle. Here is a link to a recent German interview of Quelle. (Non-German speakers like me can use the auto-translate subtitle option on YouTube, which does a… somewhat decent job).

Episode 011

Among this week’s vintage production music tracks, we feature “Heavy Action” by Johnny Pearson, which is best known as the theme song to Monday Night Football. Check out this article for more on the history of MNF theme songs.

We also feature a track by Jim Lawless, who performed on Paul McCartney’s Thrillington album — an instrumental cover version of his own classic album Ram, created under the pen name "Percy Thrillington.” Hear some of Lawless’s percussion work on the album:

This week's track “West Coast Surf Ride” was featured in the “Calendar Geeks” episode of The IT Crowd. See how the song was placed here:

Finally, in this episode I discuss Fuzz Track City, a film I scored which also makes ample use of vintage production music tracks, including “Fly Away” by Barbara Moore. That film can be seen on iTunes and Amazon, among other places.

Episode 010

This week’s vintage production music tracks include the song “Hammerhead” by Simon Haseley, which was sampled by Beyoncé for her hit “A Woman Like Me,” written for the 2006 Steve Martin/Shawn Levy film “The Pink Panther” (also starring Beyoncé). Here’s how the library track was used:

We also feature “Safari,” a song by Jack Dieval, who is known for composing Cher’s hit “The Way of Love” off of her album “Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves.” Hear that song here.

This episode also features a song by founding member and lead guitarist for Genesis, Anthony Phillips. It's interesting to note that Phillips's track doesn't have any guitar at all, but is comprised purely of synths. After leaving Genesis in 1970, Phillips embarked on a long and diverse solo career, part of which includes this fantastic album of 1980s-era synth music created for the De Wolfe library.

One of our tracks this week, Top Rally, comes from composers Jack Arel & Pierre Dutour. Jack Arel is also responsible for the theme song to the French television show “30 Millions D’amis,” a program about the lives of pets.

This song was famously covered by the band Air, as featured on the band’s deluxe release of their album Moon Safari.

We also feature our first track from the NFL Films Music Library and Sam Spence, which you can learn more about in this Studio 360 story from PRI. Like a lot of NFL Music cues, the track we feature here, “Big City Sidewalks,” was also placed in a couple episodes of Spongebob Squarepants (Fiasco! and Demolition Doofus).
